What is love? Love can mean so many different things. There are 4 different types of love. Storge is the kind of love found in the affection between parents and their children. Philla is a love that exists between friends. This is a warm and close relationship that has the characteristics of intimacy of sharing, affection and commitment. Agape is a love that is independent of one's feelings for another. Agape is to act on behalf of the well-being of someone else. Like when we see someone fall down or trip and we don't know them, we feel sympathy for them. Finally there is Eros is a love between men and women. It is a sexual love filled with passion, feelings and a longing to be with someone else. In class we were asked which do you want in a marriage? I want a little of each of them. I want storge because that love is a love of sacrifice. Philla because my husband and I are best friends and we share a warm and close relationship. Agape because we care about each other. Eros because we long to be in each others presence and nothing feels better than being in my husbands presence.
The Family: A Proclamation To The World says, "Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal and eternal identity and purpose." God created gender, that man be the giver of life and woman the producer of life. Male and female have the same basic fundamental needs but have different roles but one is not more important than the other. They cannot fulfill their roles without each other and therefore are equal. The Proclamation says, "In the bond of marriage fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners." Mothers are responsible for the nurture of their children and men are to preside, provide and protect their families.
God created the definition of marriage and that it is between a man and a woman. Mankind should not try to change God's definition. I believe that homosexuality is a choice and nobody is "born that way." There has been no evidence that proves people are born that way. There brains are no different than those who are heterosexual. It's their thinking and with change therapy, a counselor can help that person see and change the way they are thinking. All men have the right and opportunity to marry a woman and be a father to children. All woman have the right to marry a man and bear children into the world. No doubt in my mind is family important! Let me tell you why. The Family: A Proclamation to the World says "The Family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan." Man was and is never supposed to be without woman. Family is the most important thing on this earth. Family is central to our creators plan and because of that Satan is trying harder and harder to attack the family unit. He's trying to make it seem like divorce is no big deal and marriage between 2 men or 2 woman is a-okay. God made marriage to be between man and woman, has been and forever will be. There have been so many studies done that children of parents who are a mom and dad turn our way better than those of single-parents or 2 male or 2 females. However, I know that children can't control if they only have 1 parent. My father died when I was 10. My mom has raised me by herself ever since then along will 3 older siblings of mine. My father's death definitely brought my family closer together and as I grew up. I saw why having both a mother and father are so important. I missed out on not growing up with a dad but Heavenly Father had a different plan for him. It was important to me when choosing my future spouse. I had to make sure that he loved kids and was going to stick around while they grow up and live a healthy life so he can be around. I'm going to make sure that my husband is involved in our children's lives because children need their fathers.
It was hard growing up without a dad but I think that I turned out pretty okay. Why? Because I had the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. The Proclamation says, "Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." My family continued to go to church, hold FHE, have family scripture study and prayer, and attend church activities. The Gospel is a marvelous blessing. The Church teaches us that Families Can Be Together Forever and we can see our loved ones on the other side of the veil. Family is so important, specially in the LDS community. We need to stand tall and defend the family unit that Satan is attacking. We are stronger than him and as families we can be a even stronger unit against him. A theory means an explanation. Scientist use theories to explain their research. When studying intimate relationship theories are important to understand the relationships and if there's problems, how to work them out.
System Theory System theory focuses on social systems and how their interdependent parts maintain order. Family therapists use the system theory by analyzing a group as a whole. If the child is having problems, the therapist will often bring in all the family members. To make more sense, in order to help the individual, a therapist should treat the family, because it is a system itself and should be functioning in a healthy way together. Exchange Theory Exchange theory views social interaction as a cost-benefit analysis in which people try to keep their costs lower than their reward. It's an "you owe me one" situation. The costs refers to time, money, emotional or intellectual energy. Basically anything that someone invests in a relationship. The reward is an emotional or intellectual gratification, money, a sense of security or anything that someone defines satisfying in a relationship. This happens when one is selecting a life partner. You think about what your partner will be bringing into the relationship and if it's worth it. Symbolic Interaction Theory Symbolic Interaction Theory views humans as cognitive creatures who are influenced and shaped by their interactions. For example: a man who is negative about parenthood may find himself excited and committed as he interacts with a child. Our interpretation of a situation is as important as anything is objectively true about that situation. Conflict Theory Conflict theory focuses on contradictory interests, inequalities and the resulting conflict and change. This is when members of the group have different interests, needs and goals. Not everyone can be satisfied which can cause conflict. |
